Kington Langley Croquet Club

Julia Cook’s latest report on the Croquet Club’s new lawns, matches, social sessions and fundraising events:

A brief report this month to thank you all for your continuing support and interest in our lawn development.

It is great to see villagers coming along to look at how the lawns are developing.

Much as I enjoy this hot, dry weather the lawns are desperately in need of rain.  A sentiment all you gardeners will share.   We have been trying to water them, but it is a thankless task.

For most of August we have league matches every weekend, and on the occasional weekday, some at home and others away.  We play in the South West Federation and are entered in 5 different leagues.

We have also re-started our social sessions; this is when different groups or organisations bring members along for a fun game followed by tea and cake.

Unfortunately our fundraising is still continuing, but there are no public events until our Bridge Luncheon on Tuesday 23rd October and our Big Breakfast on Saturday 17th November.

The picture shows Margaret, one of our members, holding the decanter she recently won in the National Charity One-Ball Tournament.

Throughout the country 497 players participated, with 40 players partaking in the final day.  At the end of the day Margaret was one of the two finalists and after a nail-biting match Margaret was the overall winner.   Congratulations.

Do come along and visit us you will be very  welcome.
